HearthQuest Terms of Service

Last updated: September 9, 2026

These terms cover your use of the HearthQuest app and website. Using HearthQuest means you accept them. If you do not, please stop using the app and write to us so we can close your household.

Who can use HearthQuest

A household must be created and run by an adult of eighteen or older who is a parent or guardian of the people in it. That adult is the household owner. Children take part inside a household their parent set up; they do not create their own accounts and do not agree to these terms themselves.

Your household and its PIN

The household owner chooses a PIN that unlocks the parent-facing screens, and is responsible for keeping it away from the people it is meant to gate. Anyone who has the PIN can change chores, adjust balances, and edit member details. Tell us at justin@jrandjules.com if you believe your household has been accessed by someone who should not have it.

The owner is responsible for what everyone in the household does in the app, and for the accuracy of what they enter about the people in it.

Coins, points, and arcade minutes

Coins, house points, streaks, arcade minutes, and everything bought in the in-app store are made-up scorekeeping inside your own household. They are not money, they have no cash value, they cannot be exchanged for money or transferred between households, and we do not redeem them.

A parent can award, deduct, or reset any of these at any time, and resetting a season clears them. Balances may also be lost if a household is deleted. None of this is compensable.

Paid plans and the Founding Family presale

Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see your card details. A Founding Family purchase buys early access to the web app and the period of Pro access described at the time of sale. Features change as the app is built, and the specific mix of features in a plan is not guaranteed to stay the same.

If a purchase did not give you what it promised, write to justin@jrandjules.comand we will sort it out. Purchases made through an app store are also subject to that store’s own refund process.

Founding Family 30-day money-back guarantee

If HearthQuest is not a fit for your family, email justin@jrandjules.com within 30 calendar days of purchase for a full refund of the $50 Founding Family Pass. No minimum number of active days or completed quests is required. The pass is a one-time purchase and does not itself start a recurring subscription.

The in-app assistant

The assistant suggests chores, breaks down jobs, and can look at a photo a parent attaches. It is generated by a language model and it gets things wrong. Treat every suggestion as a draft for a parent to approve, not as advice. Do not rely on it for anything involving safety, health, or a decision that matters.

Fair use

Please do not:

We may suspend or close a household that does any of these, or that puts other households at risk.

What belongs to whom

The app, its artwork, its written content, and its games are ours. Your household’s own data — the people, chores, rewards, and history you enter — is yours. You give us only the permission we need to store it and run the app for you, and nothing more.

Changes, interruptions, and ending your account

Features will be added, changed, and occasionally removed. The service may be unavailable for maintenance or for reasons outside our control. We will tell household owners by email before a material change to these terms or to a paid plan.

You can stop at any time. Write to justin@jrandjules.com to have your household deleted, and we will remove its data from the live database and confirm when it is done. Deletion cannot be undone. We may close a household for a serious or repeated breach of these terms, and will give notice and a chance to export first where we reasonably can.

Disclaimers and limits

HearthQuest is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. It is a chore tracker for families, not a system of record. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose. To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, United States, and the courts there have exclusive jurisdiction, without affecting consumer-protection rights you have where you live.
